A man was able to pay for goods only from one of nine hacked personal accounts.
A twenty-year-old resident of Yekaterinburg hacked personal accounts of customers of online stores and tried to buy goods, paying for them with the money of the victims.
According to the press service of the prosecutor’s office of the Sverdlovsk region, in December 2018, a man purchased on the Internet "by copying logins and passwords for access to personal accounts of registered users of one of the largest Russian online stores." The attacker logged in to other people's accounts and obtained unlawful access to computer information protected by law. Further, the accused made changes to the registration data and placed an order for the purchase of goods.
An attacker was able to hack in this way the personal accounts of nine users from different regions of the Russian Federation (including from Moscow, Smolensk, Novosibirsk, Kaspiysk, Cheboksary, Pikalevo and the Leningrad region). True, the man was able to pay for the goods (car radio) only from one hacked personal account - in eight cases, attempts to use other people's funds were blocked by the online store security service. The actions aroused suspicion, since the attacker indicated the delivery location that does not match the one in which the account was registered.
The man is accused of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (unlawful access to computer information protected by law, if this act entailed the modification of computer information, out of selfish interest), paragraph "g", part 3 of art. 158 of the Criminal Code (theft committed in respect of electronic money), part 3 of article 30, p. "G" part 3 of article 158 of the Criminal Code (attempted theft committed in relation to electronic money).
The criminal case was sent to the Kirovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg for consideration on the merits.
