According to the WABetaInfo portal, WhatsApp is working on the possibility of adding a two-step verification mechanism to the desktop and web versions of the messenger.

Many people use the WhatsApp application for work and communication, which attracts interest from scammers. Despite the measures taken by WhatsApp, the number of users who lose access to their account or become victims of fraud continues to grow.

Since WhatsApp is still running on multi-device support, users will be able to access apps from a computer without having to have a phone nearby or keep it on. Adding 2-Step Verification will provide additional security for users.

According to WABetaInfo, after registering for a WhatsApp account and entering a six-digit code, you will need a personal PIN code to enter your account. Users will be able to enable two-step verification in the desktop and web versions of the app, which is very important, especially if a person has lost their phone or forgotten their PIN.

It is currently unclear when this feature will be available to public beta testers as it is still in the early stages of development.
