The Clop gang of Russian cybercriminals published confidential data of the British police in the shadow sector of the Internet.

The hacker group Clop, allegedly connected with Russia, put up for sale data stolen from the British police. This statement was made on Sunday by the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

According to her, the classified information of British law enforcement officers was allegedly stolen by Russian IT specialists because of an "annoying security breach."

The hackers decided to make some of the data publicly available after the Dacoll company, which provides access to police computers, refused to pay compensation. Dacoll did not disclose the amount the hackers demanded.

The information was stolen through phishing emails containing a virus. The stolen data, in particular, contained confidential information of 13 million people.

The leak "calls into question the cybersecurity mechanisms that exist between numerous public and private organizations to manage confidential law enforcement data," said national security expert and former British military intelligence colonel Philip Ingram.
