Mastercard, the international payment system, sent regulators of Belgium and Germany a notification about a system hack with customer data that was noticed by the company on August 19. This was reported on Friday by Bloomberg with reference to the regulatory authorities of these countries.

According to the Belgian authorities, the leak affected "a large number of data subjects", mainly in Germany. The exact number of persons affected is not disclosed. Regulators of these states have been notified, as there are the European headquarters of the payment system.

“From the moment that it became known about the incident, we received a lot of questions and complaints. We want to inform card users: we contacted Mastercard to obtain additional information, and we monitor the situation with the data protection agency in Hesse and other authorities, ”Bloomberg quotes the chairman of the Belgian data protection agency David Stevens.

Mastercard also said Friday that the problem is with “Specials customers in Germany.” This platform has already been disabled, "the problem is not related to the Mastercard payment network," the company says.
