Kurgan Hacker Received 1.5 Years In Prison For Attempting To Hack Websites Of Government Agencies

In the Kurgan region, a sentence was passed on a 40-year-old local resident who tried to hack the websites of authorities and institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. A resident of the Kurgan region was sentenced to 1.5 years of restriction of freedom for trying to hack the websites of state structures located in other regions. The decision was made by the Dalmatovsky District Court, the press service of the regional department of the FSB reported.





The investigation and the court established that a resident of the Dalmatovsky district, while at home, used a malicious program designed to unauthorized neutralization of computer information protection means. With the help of this program, the hacker tried to overcome the protection of resources belonging to the Ministry of Industry, Communications, Digital and Scientific and Technological Development of the Omsk Region, State Autonomous Institution "Center of Information Technologies" of the Republic of Dagestan, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk and Sverdlovsk regions.

Under part 1 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Use of a computer program, deliberately intended to destroy or neutralize the means of protecting computer information”) he was sentenced to restraint of freedom for 1 year and 6 months.
