On Friday, November 20, the cyber police of the Nikolaev region exposed a group of online scammers from Pervomaisk who deceived citizens for more than half a million hryvnia.
This is reported by the communication department of the National Police in the Nikolaev region.
The cybercriminals placed advertisements on the Internet sites for the sale of goods at low prices that were not available. As a result of such actions, they took possession of the funds of gullible citizens from different regions of Ukraine, which they sent to scammers as a preliminary and full payment for orders.
The investigation established that the members of the criminal group have been committing illegal actions since the beginning of the year. To find victims and deceive, they created fake accounts on an online commercial classifieds platform. For the purpose of conspiracy, they used bank cards issued for dummies.
It was also found that at least 50 citizens became victims of fraudsters. The total amount of damage caused to citizens reaches 500 thousand hryvnia. Measures are being taken to identify other victims. Law enforcement officers for the power support of the special police company conducted a series of searches at the places of residence of the swindlers.
As a result of the investigative actions, the police seized mobile phones and computer equipment, on which the presence of accounts confirming the facts of fraud, as well as bank cards, SIM cards of the intruders and other material evidence was established.
- The issue of reporting to persons on suspicion of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Fraud committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons” is being resolved. The sanction of the article provides for punishment up to imprisonment for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation continues, the message says.
