Hackers infected the ransomware with the information system of Parkview Medical Center, the largest medical facility in the Pueblo County of Colorado, and are demanding a ransom in cryptocurrency.

Referring to a hospital employee, Fox News reports that the Meditech patient information storage system at Parkview Medical Center was infected with a ransomware virus and disabled. The hospital confirmed the incident in a statement: “On April 21, Parkview Medical Center became the target of cybercriminals, leading to disruptions in some of our IT systems.”

The medical center told Fox that it had switched to a paper-based patient records system:

“Having learned about this incident, Parkview immediately attracted specialists to investigate the situation and mitigate its consequences. Patient care is always our top priority. The situation will not affect the level or quality of care provided to patients. ”

Earlier this month, Interpol stated that cybercriminals have stepped up efforts to spread ransomware viruses in hospital information systems in order to receive large ransom payments in cryptocurrency. At the same time, according to Emsisoft, the number of successful ransomware viruses in the US public sector has decreased significantly
- in the first quarter only 89 organizations were subjected to them.

Earlier this month, hackers who call themselves DoppelPaymer demanded
ransom of 100 BTC in exchange for stopping the publication of data stolen from the administrative system of the American city of Torrance.
