The attacker not only stole money from accounts, but also issued loans to the former owners of the SIM cards he had purchased.

A criminal case has been opened in Novosibirsk against a local resident who has committed a series of thefts from bank accounts of citizens using mobile applications.

As established by the investigation, the suspect bought SIM-cards and checked whether the numbers were previously linked to the applications of online banks. Then the man re-linked the applications to his own mobile number, stole money from the accounts of former SIM-card holders, and also issued online loans for them. Further, the fraudster transferred funds to the accounts of electronic payment systems or to bank cards issued to dummies. Thus, the attacker stole more than 500 thousand rubles.

During searches at the place of residence of the Novosibirsk citizen, law enforcement officers seized 9 cell phones, over 300 SIM cards, 6 bank cards and other equipment. The man is currently in custody. Further operational and investigative actions are being carried out to collect the evidence base and establish other episodes of the criminal activity of the defendant.
