Roskomnadzor can now achieve blocking of services through the court.
The company, being in the register of Roskomnadzor information dissemination organizers, is legally obliged to share user data at the request of the investigating authorities and special services. A source at RBC says that the FSB has demanded that the company have session keys, which give access not only to the correspondence, but also to the traffic data. The security forces showed interest in Yandex.Mail and Yandex.Disk services. The search engine representatives did not respond to the request within the prescribed 10-day period. Since then, several months have passed.
The company is now waiting for a fine of up to a million rubles. If after that the keys do not fall into the FSB, the services may be blocked by a court decision. Thus, Yandex will repeat the fate of the Telegram messenger, which faced similar problems a year ago and is now blocked with varying success.
A source close to Yandex told RBC that the company is worried about possible reputational losses and lower profits in the event of cooperation with the FSB. According to him, foreign companies such as Google, the FSB does not force such cooperation
