On Thursday evening, December 5, US and British authorities released charges against Muscovite (and formerly resident of Ukraine) Maxim Yakubts and resident of Yoshkar-Ola Igor Turashev. According to U.S. law enforcement agencies, they are leaders in a cybercriminal group calling itself Evil Corp. This group, better known as Dridex, “turned” large-scale fraudulent schemes around the world, bringing it more than $ 100 million.

The US prosecutor brought charges against bank fraud against Yakubts and Turashev, and the Ministry of Finance put them on the sanctions list for creating and distributing a banking trojan Dridex.

Using Dridex, cybercriminals managed to steal bank card data belonging to citizens in 40 countries. Treasury officials called Evil Corp “one of the largest hacker groups in history,” and the UK National Anti-Crime Agency (NCA) considers the group and its leader the most serious cybercrime threat to the country.

The U.S. Treasury Department has listed Evil Corp and its executives on the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list, which is a list of individuals and organizations with which U.S. citizens and permanent residents are prohibited from doing business. The SDN is managed by the United States Foreign Assets Control Office (OFAC). In addition to Yakubts and Turashev, 15 accomplices were also included in the list, most of whom live in Moscow.

Currently, Yakubets and Turashev are at large. According to Sophos specialist John Shier, the chances of their capture are "close to zero." For information that could help in the arrest of Yakubets, the Ministry of Finance announced a reward of $ 5 million, according to The Guardian.
