The government of Ukraine has asked the Ukrainian hacker community to help protect the country's critical infrastructure and conduct cyber-intelligence operations against Russian soldiers.

Since the beginning of the invasion of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine on Thursday, February 24, the following messages began to appear on hacker forums: “Ukrainian cyber community! The time has come to participate in the cyber defense of our country.” Hackers are asked to fill out a Google Docs form, indicating their specialization (for example, malware development) and professional references.

According to the Reuters news agency, the head of the Kiev cybersecurity company Cyber Unit Technologies Yegor Aushev, he posted appeals on the forums at the request of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The Ukrainian government does not comment on this issue.

As Aushev explained, volunteers from among the hacker community will be divided into two divisions - defensive and offensive. The defense division will ensure the security of critical infrastructure, in particular power plants and water supply systems.

The offensive unit is organized by Aushev himself. His task will be to help the Ukrainian army conduct intelligence operations.

According to the specialist, as of the evening of February 24, he received hundreds of applications from volunteers. All applications will be carefully checked to exclude enemy agents.
