The Cybersecurity Directorate will start operating from October 1, 2019.

The US National Security Agency (NSA) has announced plans to create a new cyber security unit that will protect the US from external cyber threats. The new division will be called the Cybersecurity Directorate and will become operational on October 1, 2019.

The director of the unit will be Anne Neuberger, who will report directly to the head of the NSA - General Paul Nakasone.

The NSA is known for its development and improvement of US offensive cyber-sensenal. The role of the new “Cybersecurity Directorate” will be to improve defensive security systems and detect ongoing attacks against US organizations.

"The new approach to cyber security will strengthen the position of the NSA in collaboration with key partners in the US government, such as the Cyber Command, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation," the department said in a statement. The Cyber Security Directorate will collaborate with the agencies listed above and share intelligence and vulnerability assessments.

Recall that in November of last year, the US Cyber Command commenced a project in which it publishes unsecured samples of malware used in various APT groupings on VirusTotal and in its Twitter account.
