A criminal case has been opened against a 20-year-old resident of Kaliningrad under the article “Theft”.

A twenty-year-old resident of Kaliningrad "cleaned" the ATMs, causing a malfunction in his software. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Leningrad region, the young man deposited cash on the card, and then caused a malfunction in the program, which led to an unauthorized automatic return of money to his card. According to law enforcement agencies, in this way a Kaliningrader managed to steal at least 4.9 thousand rubles.

Illegal actions of a young man were recorded on a surveillance camera. Using video footage, law enforcement officials were able to identify the offender. A criminal case has been opened under article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Theft”). The investigation is ongoing.

In July of this year, SecurityLab reported on a resourceful resident of Sochi who managed to “outwit” an ATM and steal more than 160 thousand rubles. The man approached the ATM and began the operation of crediting money to his account. He deposited the banknote into the bill acceptor, then blocked the system, returned the banknote back, and the money was still credited to his account. It is possible that Kaliningraders used the same fraudulent scheme.
