According to a government decree, "unregistered groups of citizens carrying out extremist activities, including in messengers and social networks," are equated with "extremist groups." The maximum preventive measure will be seven years in prison.
"Criminal Article 361-1 on the creation of an extremist group or participation in it provides for up to seven years in prison," the report says.

Despite the fact that the text of the resolution itself has not yet been communicated to the citizens, the security forces warned that the work on recognizing unregistered groups of readers of messengers and social networks in the GUBOP as “extremist formations” has already begun.

It should be noted that now in Belarus more than 100 Telegram channels are recognized as "extremist", mainly on political topics and containing criticism of the activities of Alexander Lukashenko. The largest of these, Nexta Live, has about a million subscribers.
