A criminal group of three residents of Nizhny Tagil robbed ATMs using radio interference. According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, between November 2017 and February 2019, in this way, the attackers stole more than 8 million rubles.

The activities of the group were suppressed by the staff of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Sverdlovsk Region with the participation of the Russian Guard in February this year. A preliminary investigation has now been completed and the criminal case file has been forwarded to the Leninsky District Court of Nizhny Tagil.

As it turned out during the investigation, the leader of the group is a 46-year-old previously convicted man. He developed a plan according to which one of the accomplices was looking for ATMs located on the ground floors of buildings. The attacker checked the security alarm, studied the possibility of hacking using special equipment, by breaking the floor or by dismantling the walls.

Confirming the availability of all necessary conditions for robbing an ATM, criminals illegally entered the premises and turned off the alarm. Then, using an electronic device to create radio interference, they blocked the communication channels of the complexes for issuing and receiving money and, using gas-welding equipment, cut the side walls of the ATMs and then got the money. During the process, one of the accomplices monitored the environment and provided an immediate departure with the loot.
