A GitHub user with an online alias "Widevinedump" has published several repositories that allow people to download HD videos from popular streaming platforms: Disney +, Amazon, Netflix, and others. Widevinedump code appears to be "free" to use and may be unsafe in general.

Since authors today are well aware that content must be protected as much as possible from illegal use, the anti-piracy tool Digital Rights Management (DRM) is very popular.

Widevine DRM is a key player in this market. It is this technology from Google that is used by well-known streaming services like Amazon, Netflix and Disney +.

Widevine DRM comes with different security levels: L1, L2 and L3. Of these, L1 provides the highest degree of security. Nevertheless, hackers have repeatedly demonstrated how to crack DRM and bypass protection against piracy.

A developer with the nickname Widevinedump has published a whole set of tools for downloading protected content on GitHub. The archive contains DISNEY-4K-SCRIPT, Netflix-4K-Script, WV-AMZN-4K-RIPPER, HBO-MAX-BLIM-TV-Paramount-4k-Downloader, APPLE-TV-4K-Downloader and several other tools.

If there is free cheese, where is the mousetrap? In fact, it's much simpler: Widevinedump did not include in most of the tools the Content Decryption Module (CDM), which is required to download 4K video. To access this option, users have to pay a developer. Widevinedump himself even provided his own email for communication.
