On November 24, 2021, cyber specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine spoke about the arrest of five members of the Phoenix international hacker group. Their detentions took place in Kiev and Kharkov. Law enforcement agencies explained that all the detainees have a higher technical education, and together they have been engaged in criminal activities for at least two years. The hackers specialized in hacking mobile devices remotely using phishing services and legalizing stolen Apple smartphones by unlocking them and re-linking the account.
According to Bleeping Computer, the Phoenix hacker group has been illegally gaining remote access to mobile device users' accounts for several years, and then monetizing them by hacking their electronic payments or bank accounts or selling their personal information to third parties. To steal the mobile accounts of mobile device users, the attackers used phishing sites that are clones of the Apple and Samsung login portals. The hackers also offered remote smartphone hacking services to third parties at prices ranging from $ 100 to $ 200.
