Law enforcement officers of the city of St. Petersburg detained two scammers who stole fuel from gas stations by hacking servers. With the help of malware, two Petersburg attackers made more than 417 free gas stations at gas stations worth over 2.1 million rubles.

A 40-year-old previously convicted Petersburger acquired and installed malware on his computer that could destabilize the operation of servers at gas stations. A malicious program allowed an attacker to immediately refund money to a bank card immediately after refueling any amount of fuel.

To commit crimes, the attacker hired a 31-year-old driver. Together, they rented a domestic Gazelle truck with an increased capacity tank of 1,000 liters. They poured the stolen fuel into it for further resale in places near the gas station.

On this fact a criminal case was initiated under part 4 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code ("Theft"). The attackers confessed to the crime, by the decision of the court they were released on bail.
