The criminals, posing as girls, invited men to various online projects, where they forced them to make in-app purchases. On September 15, a large-scale police operation took place in China to catch game cheaters. As a result, the authorities managed to arrest 469 criminals pretending to be girls so that the victims spent money on them in online games. This was reported by the publication Gamelook.com. More than 350 police officers from Changchun City reportedly took part in the raid and detained criminals in 17 different provinces. According to the results of the preliminary investigation, a whole group of companies was responsible for organizing the fraudulent scheme in China.

Fraudsters entered into agreements with publishing labels, after which, pretending to be girls, they lured male players into various game projects and forced the latter to purchase in-game items for them for real money or carry out other similar microtransactions.

To make it more plausible, the companies involved in the scheme forced their female employees to talk to victims in audio and video chats.

When victims made transactions in negotiated titles, the attackers received a certain percentage for the attracted and paying users.

According to GameLook, this scheme was used, among other things, for money laundering for criminal purposes. However, what kind of games we are talking about is not specified in the material.
