13 telephone fraudsters were detained in St. Petersburg. They seized 14 million rubles and an expensive Mercedes car. The suspects called citizens and introduced themselves as security officers of a particular bank.

The illegal scheme was as follows: during a conversation with a false bank employee, clients were misled about their funds, after which the victims carried out transactions to accounts controlled by the attackers. Then, in the shortest possible time, the stolen money was cashed in the terminals of various banks. After that, the attackers bought cryptocurrency with them.

According to operational information, most of the defendants were in St. Petersburg, some in Moscow, since it was the capital that was suitable for working with cryptocurrency. The police have information about the commission of dozens of such fraudulent actions by malefactors in different districts of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, as well as in the Perm Territory. One call brought the members of the group from 100 thousand to one and a half million rubles.

Based on these facts, the investigative bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia opened criminal cases under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud), after which they were combined into one proceeding and transferred for further investigation to the State Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg.
